LRT-2, MRT-3 install dedicated lanes for students

MANILA – Students now have dedicated lanes at stations of the Light Rail Transit Line Line 2 (LRT-2) and the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) as of Friday.

In a statement on Friday, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon said the dedicated student lanes are in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s order to eliminate queuing and avoid inconvenience.

Dizon said the dedicated lanes would cater to students who need to purchase single journey tickets with a 50-percent discount.

“Dapat hindi rin natin pahirapan ang pag-verify ng student discounts para walang pila at mabilis ang daloy ng mga student passenger para hindi sila ma-late sa kanilang eskwelahan (We should not make verification hard for students before they get their fare discounts. There should be no queuing and there should be a smooth flow so they won’t be late),” he said.

On the other hand, the Light Rail Manila Corporation, the operator and maintenance provider of LRT-1, will implement queuing systems to manage passenger flow and minimize delays.

On June 20, Marcos ordered LRT Lines 1 and 2, and MRT-3 to increase student discounts from the usual 20 percent to 50 percent, effective until 2028. (PNA)
