BAGUIO CITY – The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) will offer a free electric shuttle service for guests and visitors of Camp John Hay starting July 15.
BCDA President and CEO Joshua Bingcang said Friday that the initiative aims to improve accessibility, reduce traffic congestion, and promote eco-friendly transport within the former US military rest and recreation facility.
“Through this project, the BCDA seeks to show its commitment to help Baguio City and the community in addressing emerging urban problems, while also fulfilling our promise to take care of the environment and Baguio’s natural charm and beauty,” Bingcang said in an interview.
The six-month pilot run will deploy three e-vehicles, looping around designated stations with fixed schedules.
Without private vehicles, visitors currently rely on jeepneys that stop only at the gates, or taxis which are scarce when exiting the site.
BCDA and John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korea’s DeviceDesign Co. Ltd. and the Cordillera Basic Sector Transport Cooperative (CBSTC) to implement the project.
CBSTC CEO Jude Wal noted the e-shuttles are equipped to handle Baguio’s rugged terrain, making them suitable for other areas in the Cordillera.
The project supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly on communities and climate action. (PNA)
