CITY OF BACOOR, Cavite — The City Government of Bacoor has started dredging activities at the upstream portion of Molino Dam in an effort to address the city’s persistent flooding issues.
According to the city government, the project, led by the City Engineering Office, is designed to increase the dam’s water storage capacity. It said this will help reduce the risk of flooding in nearby communities by temporarily storing excess rainwater during heavy downpours.
Mayor Strike Revilla emphasized that the dredging is a significant project for Barangay 3 and the entire City of Bacoor.
“The goal of this project is to improve Molino Dam’s capacity to store water, in order to lessen the impact of flooding in our area,” Revilla said.
He also expressed his vision to fully revitalize the dam and maximize its long-term benefits for the community.
“Beyond flood prevention, we are also looking into the dam’s potential future use by Maynilad. This project is not only about mitigating floods but also about better managing our natural resources,” he added.
Recently, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region IV-A and the Bacoor City Government, conducted a joint inspection to monitor the progress of the dredging operations.
The inspection was led by NIA CBIMO Division Manager Engr. Edwin C. Nazareno and Senior Engineer Blue Kevin Borreo, along with representatives from the DPWH and the city’s engineering office.
NIA also expressed support for the initiative, noting that the project will not only improve water storage but will also aid in flood prevention for surrounding communities.
NIA also underscored that the collaboration between the City Government of Bacoor and NIA reflects a proactive and united effort to tackle critical challenges and ensure a safer, more resilient, and sustainable future for the people of Bacoor City. (RBF, PIA Cavite)
